01What you're renting
A photo booth kit: a three-piece shell, an iPad configured for your event, a printer and media if your package includes one, 24 cardboard props, a backdrop and stand, and a microphone if you added the video guestbook. The kit ships to the address you give us and remains our property throughout.
02How long you have it
Your kit is dispatched to arrive roughly three days before your event, up to five days for west-coast addresses. There is no hourly limit on your event day — the booth runs for as long as you want it to.
You must hand the kit to a carrier within 2 days of your event date, using the prepaid return label included in the box. Returns are considered made at the carrier's first scan.
03Late returns
Returns after the 2-day window are charged $75 per calendar day to the card on file. This is not a penalty for its own sake: each kit serves one event at a time, and a late return can cost another customer their date.
If something outside your control delays the return — a carrier failure, a weather closure — tell us before the window closes and we will not charge the fee.
04The refundable hold
We keep your card on file and place a refundable authorization of $500 approximately two days before your kit ships. An authorization is not a charge: it appears as pending on your statement and no money moves.
The authorization is released when your return receives its first carrier scan. If it has already expired by then — an online card authorization lasts about a week — there is nothing left to release and it simply drops off your statement.
We charge for loss, for damage beyond ordinary wear, or for unpaid late fees, against the card you authorized at checkout — whether or not the authorization is still open. We will tell you the amount and the reason before we do.
05Damage, loss and ordinary wear
Scuffs, marks and the general evidence of a good party are ordinary wear and are never charged for.
You are responsible for the kit while it is in your possession, up to the $500 hold. Damage that occurs in transit is our problem, not yours, in both directions.
Every kit is bench-tested and test-printed before it ships. If it arrives damaged or does not work, call us and we will send a replacement part or a complete second kit at our cost.
06How you may use it
Indoors, or outdoors under cover — a tent, a porch, a pavilion. Not in open weather: dye-sublimation printers are damaged by moisture and the backdrop stand is not built for wind.
Please do not disassemble the shell beyond the three sliding pieces, open the printer beyond the media tray, or attempt to modify the iPad or its software.
07Changing or cancelling
You may change your event date once at no cost, more than 30 days before your event, subject to a kit being available. Inside 30 days we will do what we can, but peak dates are usually committed.
Cancel more than 60 days before your event and you are refunded in full. Inside 60 days we refund everything we have not already spent building and staging your kit; call us and we will tell you that figure honestly before you decide.
If we cannot supply a kit for your date for any reason, you are refunded in full and we will help you find an alternative.
08Your photos
You own every photograph and video the booth produces at your event. Full resolution, no watermark, no expiry, and no charge to you or your guests to download them.
We host a copy on our gallery platform so your guests can retrieve their own, and we remove that gallery whenever you ask.
09Where we ship
The contiguous United States only. We do not currently ship to Alaska, Hawaii, or outside the US.
10Payment
The full package price, plus any add-ons, is charged at the time of booking. Card details are handled by Stripe; we never see or store your card number.
By completing checkout you authorize us to keep your card on file and to charge it for the amounts described in these terms — late fees and damage — and for nothing else.
11Reaching us
Call or text (732) 555-0199, or email hello@knotbooth.com. The phone line is staffed continuously from the moment your kit is delivered until your return is scanned.
Questions about any of this before you book? Call or text us — we would rather explain a clause now than argue about one later.
The FAQ covers most of it too.
